The subject had the presence of mind to create a “signal”. The Spotters had the skill sets to recognize it. Job well done, CASARA.

On August 30th Northern Saskatchewan CASARA members in La Ronge,  were tasked by the RCMP to assist with the search of a missing 73 year old male.

At approximately 6PM while performing a search grid, smoke was spotted. Upon further investigation the missing individual was seen waving at the search plane. GPS coordinates were recorded and sent to the Canadian Rangers who were already on the ground.    It was determined due the unknown condition of the person and the difficult terrain that a helicopter would be dispatched near the location to transfer him to La Ronge. By that time the Rangers had also located the person and assisted with getting him on the helicopter.

CASARA is proud to have worked along side the RCMP, Canadian Rangers and Arrowhead Helicopters during this search and rescue event.

Good job to all.
