MIASARS stands for the Mid-Island Air Search & Rescue Society. Under the umbrella of the Civil Air Search And Rescue Association (CASARA), we are a volunteer and not-for-profit organization that provides air search and rescue services to the public primarily in the mid-island region of Vancouver Island.
In helping deliver its Search and Rescue services MIASARS acknowledges the financial assistance of the Province of British Columbia.
Where are we located?
Our headquarters is located at the Nanaimo Airport. Our primary role is to assist in searching for missing aircraft and homing beacons as directed by the military Joint Rescue Coordination Centre located in Victoria. Our secondary role is to respond to calls from the ECC (Emergency Coordination Centre) to assist Ground or Marine SAR groups in searching for missing persons such as hikers, boaters and back-country travelers.
Our primary area of operation is Vancouver Island but we can be requested to assist anywhere within the Province of BC. We respond to requests for our services by the following authorities:
Joint Rescue Coordination Center (Joint Air Force & Coast Guard)
Emergency Management BC
RCMP Ground Search & Rescue Units
Marine Search & Rescue Units
In support of CASARA and PEP Air, we conduct Search and Rescue missions when requested to do so for persons in danger or distress mainly on Vancouver Island. We will do so regardless of the reason they have found themselves requiring our assistance.
