The summer months have been busy for a small team of Nanaimo CASARA members who have been preparing our newly acquired Air Search and Rescue Support Unit for operational capability. The 14′ x 7′ twin axle trailer has been transformed into a mobile headquarters unit to support both air and ground crews when tasked to remote areas. Communications play a major role in any Search. The bank of three radios provide dedicated Air, Ground & Ham connections to meet this goal. The general work rea provides space and equipment to plan the Search activities. The Unit’s is powered by a bank of batteries with a generator for backup – next will be the addition of solar panels.
