Back in May we published news of the progress made by Provincial & National SAR Associations in certifying the use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) in Search and Rescue scenarios.    Earlier this month we, CASARA/PEP Air, Nanaimo took possession of our first two Drones, funded through its not-for profit Society, Mid Island Air Search and Rescue, with grants provided by the BC Gaming Commission.

The DJI Drones, a Mavic 2 & a  Mini 3 Pro, will be put through their paces as we look to certify our pilots and recruit other support members to our REPAS Team.   Alongside this initiative we will also be training members in Loc8 software usage to maximize the effectiveness and speed of analyzing the data images provided by the drone cameras.

Exciting use of technology to add to our existing air and ground SAR capabilities.
